Meet Gnanasekaran (we call him Gnana for short).

Gnana is the manager of the Idulgashinna Organic Bio-Tea Project, which is the estate where our single origin organic teas are grown and processed. The estate began it’s organic conversion in 1984, and in 1987 became the the first certified organic tea garden in the world. Gnana (as he is known) is the driving force behind Idulgashinna’s dual goals of producing clean organic tea for consumers from a happy, cared-for environment, and ensuring that the people who produce it are also happy and comfortable. A quietly spoken and humble man he has inspired many Tradewinds visitors as a man of great integrity and vision.

"The relationship between the management and the workers –it is like one family"

Miss S Nishanthi (living and working at Idulgashinna)

Tradewinds has supported the social development project at Idulgashinna since its beginnings in 1992, through buying tea, contributing much needed funds, and visiting the estate to show our support.

Tradewinds’ non-organic Ceylon teas are all fairtrade certified and are sourced and blended for us by Stassen, using the same expert blends which have given our teas the exceptional reputation they’ve enjoyed for four decades. Stassens is a wholly Sri Lankan owned company, and has a long record of commitment to its employees' welfare, and to providing jobs, educational and social development opportunities and health care to people in rural areas.
