Sri Lanka: Children's Books (Tax Deductible)

Your donation to this project supports the education of children and young people on Levellon Group of Tea Estates, in particular the Colgrain Division, in Kandy, Pupuressa, Sri Lanka. A $10 donation contributes to the purchase of books for the community centre micro-library.

In the first year of the project, a micro library has been established in the community centre and for the first time reading materials other than school text books have been made available for the Colgrain estate children. The micro-library currently contains 52 books, so they are very keen to expand the collection of books. The education awareness element of the project has also encouraged parents to buy books for their children rather than unnecessary toys.

Between 2015-2019, this project will support approximately 250 children in years 5 to 11 at school, so that educational achievement can improve amongst disadvantaged children living on tea estates.  Satyodaya, a non-government organisation which has been working amongst tea estate families since 1972, is working alongside the community to encourage hope, interest and understanding of the value of education.
